1. Purpose of this Disclaimer
This Disclaimer explains the development status of Crux Karoo Observatory and limits reliance on website content, prototype tools, project descriptions, images, planning material, Science Desk content, Atlas-related descriptions, and future programme information.
This page should be read together with the Terms and Conditions and Privacy Policy.
2. Crux Karoo is in Development
Crux Karoo Observatory is a developing project. Certain buildings, systems, instruments, datasets, field artefacts, software layers, guest programmes, tools, media workflows, and operational concepts shown on the website may be conceptual, planned, prototyped, under review, under construction, subject to approvals, subject to supplier availability, subject to funding, or subject to change.
Images, renders, illustrations, diagrams, mockups, tool previews, and descriptions may be concept visuals or planning references and may not represent completed facilities, available services, final specifications, or approved operational infrastructure.
3. No Warranties or Guarantees
Website information is provided for general project communication, planning, education, and enquiry purposes only. It is not guaranteed to be complete, current, accurate, uninterrupted, secure, error-free, suitable for any specific purpose, or available at any particular time.
Crux does not guarantee future public opening dates, guest access, dataset availability, telescope availability, science output, image quality, pricing, accommodation, events, travel arrangements, weather conditions, internet connectivity, power availability, or operational readiness unless confirmed in a separate written agreement.
As at the last updated date, paid datasets, paid bookings, paid courses, guest services, and public guest programmes have not yet launched.
4. Tools, Astronomy Calculations, and Planning Outputs
Crux planning tools are advisory prototypes. Outputs may be approximate and may rely on assumptions, public data, manually entered values, estimated target dimensions, browser calculations, third-party sky imagery, or provisional Crux instrument standards.
Planning outputs must not be treated as professional astronomy, engineering, travel, safety, financial, legal, scientific, or operational advice. Users must independently verify any important decision.
5. Site, Travel, Weather, and Night-Sky Risk
Any future visit to the Karoo site, observing event, field activity, accommodation, course, or guest programme may involve inherent risks, including remote-location conditions, weather, darkness, wildlife, uneven terrain, road travel, equipment hazards, power interruptions, communication limits, and environmental exposure.
No person should travel to, enter, or rely on access to any Crux site unless invited, authorised, and subject to applicable site rules, safety briefings, waivers, insurance, operational procedures, and written confirmation.
6. Limitation of Liability
To the fullest extent permitted by South African law, Crux Pty Ltd and its directors, employees, contractors, consultants, designers, developers, agents, affiliates, suppliers, and representatives are not liable for any loss, damage, injury, cost, claim, delay, data loss, business loss, reputational loss, travel cost, opportunity loss, or consequential loss arising from:
- use of or reliance on the website, tools, Science Desk content, images, project descriptions, or communications;
- errors, omissions, outdated information, interrupted access, or technical faults;
- third-party links, services, scripts, surveys, images, data sources, hosting services, or embedded resources;
- unauthorised site visits, travel plans, assumptions about availability, or reliance on development-stage content;
- any decision made without independent verification or written confirmation from Crux.
Nothing in this Disclaimer excludes liability that cannot legally be excluded under South African law.
7. Indemnity
You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Crux Pty Ltd, its directors, employees, contractors, consultants, designers, developers, agents, affiliates, suppliers, and representatives from and against claims, losses, liabilities, damages, costs, and expenses arising out of or connected with:
- your use or misuse of the website, tools, content, forms, or communications;
- your reliance on development-stage information without independent verification;
- your breach of the Terms and Conditions or applicable law;
- your submission of unlawful, inaccurate, infringing, or misleading information;
- unauthorised access to any Crux site, system, instrument, service, or infrastructure.
8. Third-Party Content and Services
The website may reference third-party astronomy data, sky survey imagery, fonts, scripts, maps, articles, suppliers, tools, products, hosting services, or external pages. Crux does not control third-party content and is not responsible for their accuracy, availability, legality, security, privacy practices, or performance.
9. Media, Publicity, and Project Interpretation
No website statement, render, tool, concept, or Science Desk item may be interpreted as a final construction statement, investment representation, professional feasibility report, public offer, regulated financial communication, environmental approval, building approval, scientific claim, tourism licence, or guaranteed service specification unless expressly stated in a signed document issued by Crux Pty Ltd.
10. Capture Package Builder and Final Endpoint
The Capture Package Builder is a structured enquiry tool. It may collect planning context from specialist tools, but it does not confirm operational acceptance, capture feasibility, telescope time, dataset quality, processing scope, delivery date, or price.
Crux may manually adjust target choice, rig choice, mosaic arrangement, dataset tier, delivery format, or scheduling recommendation after review.
11. Future Planning Calendar
Any future Planning Calendar, availability window, rig status, target window, or observatory queue indicator will be provisional unless confirmed in a separate written agreement. Calendar-facing information may change due to weather, Moon phase, technical conditions, safety, staffing, maintenance, site readiness, or operational priorities.
